I was given permission to share a handful of the maps that were either untasked or cut due to production pivots. While they may not be 'portfolio ready', I wanted to showcase them in case they might be inspiring to other designer somehow. Below, I will briefly elaborate on them...
Mutiny - An inverse symmetrical design showcasing 2 competing airships attempting to gather resources from an asteroid belt. I worked on the level design in collaboration with Garrett Billian.
Keystone - A mirror symmetrical design inspired by meatgrinder maps such as Nuketown and Shipment. I built this as a weekend project because Ian (CEO) mentioned having a good time playing a community Nuketown remake made in the map creator tools.
Vortex - A battle royale biome that I was in charge of based around a few ships and asteroids colliding within the pull of a vortex. The level was in collaboration with Mingfei Yang.
Assembly - A mirror symmetrical design set in a mech assembly factor. It featured a redirectable laser that could block entrances, clear objectives, or take out enemies; and the entirety of the map played into this with it's design.
FTUE - This included the tutorial which had to be redesigned in about a week while considering very limited engineering and art scope. And a shooting range/playground for players to experiment with the physics and weapon sandbox. I also used this to explore the and define the simulation artstyle.
Reflection - Technically a vertically mirrored level (maybe the first of it's kind?). This map featured a world portal that connects 2 arenas as if you were looking into a reflection. You could use this to carry momentum in fun ways, and shoot players that appear to be upside down. It was another weekend project that was untasked. My goal was to show the potential of unexplored ways to use our portal tech and create something that would be a great conversation piece. This was among several equally crazy ideas.
There were a few more in various states of completion, plus many other less important things, like map creator canvases, asset blockouts and marketing material but I was not able to get any screenshots. Hope this was interesting to see. :)
