This is an old blockout for Call of Duty, created using the Black Ops 3 mod tools for Radiant.
Although it is quite simple and I've never pursued any art for this level, it is something that I'm quite proud of. The map features meticulously handcrafted lines of sight that segment visibility in a way that encourages specific player behaviors. I aimed to create intuitive 'checks' for positions of power, flank routes dependent on loadout and playstyle, and to maintain a healthy rotation in map control.
The covered/indoor sections were designed with consideration for how the map would play when killstreaks are active. The shelter allows players to make well-timed advances to the next safe location, and points of interest often provide opportunities to engage with others while limiting interactions with those connecting routes.
Lastly, though not present in this version of the map, I was mindful of creating spaces where footsteps could be differentiated by the sounds of the material advancing players are walking on, as well as wall thickness/material that could be shot through. This was to ensure that depth was not sacrificed by the simplicity and intuitive nature of the layout.
This project was built as a design test. I learned the tools (only having touched them once before for a 15 minute layout that you can find here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/bK0D3G), designed the map, and tested over a 2 week period within my free-time. I hope that this is insightful and maybe in some way inspiring for someone out there. :) Thanks for taking a look!
Big thanks to Thomas Murray for being on call for all my Radiant questions during this build!
